Madibaz Sport is an engaged and student-centred department focusing on the holistic development of individuals by serving their sport, recreation, and health needs through creating opportunities for participation in international, national, regional, and local sport, research, and community engagement programmes, which reflect the image of the University. The vision of Madibaz Sport is to support and contribute to the University’s philosophy and endeavours as a values-driven department, through optimizing the academic, sport, recreation, and health potential of our internal and external communities

Twenty-one sport clubs compete at various levels from inter-residence competitions to local leagues, participate in Inter-varsity, USSA tournaments, National Club Championships, Varsity Sport etc., as well as preparing the players to achieve their full potential by providing opportunities to play at provincial and national level. In addition, through the various high-performance programmes coordinated by the Madibaz High Performance Complex, Nelson Mandela University plays a significant role in the process of developing elite and potentially elite players.

The Madibaz Fitness & Aquatics Centre promotes health and wellness for staff and students, as well as for elite sportsmen and women to develop strength and fitness required at the

highest level.

Madibaz Sport also provides club members with excellent sports facilities, scientifically based coaching programmes and organisational and administrative support.
